Scholastic India is pleased to announce the Scholastic Writing Awards 2008 for outstanding original works by students of Classes 4 to 9, in the categories of short story and non-fiction prose in English.

Scholastic Writing Awards is an annual competition that encourages students to use their writing skills and creativity.

Over 5000 schools all over the country have been invited to participate in this exciting competition.

You can write a short story on any topic of your choice. The topic for non-fiction prose is "A hero for today's India".

All entries have to be original creative works by the students. Before submitting the entries, the school should ensure that the works are the students' own. Any work found to be plagarised will be disqualified and any awards granted to these works will be withdrawn.

 THE AWARDS 
An expert committee of educators, authors and editors will select top 25 entries for each group in two categories. There will be 100 winners from across the country.

Out of the top 25 from each category and group the panel of judges will select top 3 entries. The prizes are:

1st Prize:   Grolier Student Encyclopedia (17 volumes), Certificate of honour & Rs 1500
2nd Prize:   Grolier Science Experiments (10 volumes), Certificate of honour & Rs 1000
3rd Prize:   Special Scholastic Book Hamper, Certificate of honour & Rs 500

Each of the other 22 winning entries will get a Special Scholastic Book Hamper and a Certificate of Honour.

All partricipants will receive a Certificate of Participation.

 IMPORTANT DATES 
  • Entries will be accepted from 15th December 2007 to 31st January 2008. Entries received after the closing date will be rejected.
  • Results will be declared in April 2008.
 GUIDELINES FOR PARTICIPATION 
  • The participating school must evaluate the best entry in both the categories (short story and non-fiction prose) from both the age groups and send the same to the Scholastic Writing Awards Response Cell. Not more than one entry per group, per school will be accepted.

  • The entries forwarded by the schools to the Scholastic Writing Award Response Cell should ideally be typewritten. If handwritten, please ensure they are legible. Illegible entries would be disqualified.

  • The title of each piece should appear at the top of the first page. Do not use a separate title page.

  • The completed entry form should be stapled to each entry. Kindly photocopy the form.

  • Please keep a copy of the entry. Due to volume of entries expected, entries cannot be returned.

 COPYRIGHT RELEASE 
Copyright for manuscripts selected for awards will be the exclusive property of Scholastic India. By signing the entry form, the student agrees to the terms of release.
